Mario Brothers and Surrealist
Mario Brothers and Surrealist
Mario Bros is a popular well known video game that's graphics are comparable to surrealist art due to its storyline and characters being avante garde and creative. On the other hand, surrealism art is defined to be different from other art forms for how extreme, different, and weird it was and is still being created in our society. The question is, is Mario Bros a form of surrealist art? I mean, with its crazy storyline that doesn’t make much sense as well as characters that are in it, why would it not be. Not only is both of them very out there and far fetched, but it somehow makes sense to the viewer. They both share the idea of having outlandish ideas come to life and almost become truths within our reality just by how the creator portrays them. Why not have a plumber save a princess with the help of some dinosaurs and monkeys. Where this topic starts to get shaky is that many will argue that Mario Bros is graphics, not paintings, and it cartoons where as majority of surrealism art back then was paintings. Surrealism artist have similar artwork to Mario Brothers due to both using strange, unique, and creative characters to not only make a cohesive piece, but to tell a story that is out of this world. But is similar enough for Mario Bros to fall under the category of surrealism art? Maybe it is a different variation of it is the best way to put it since of the time period difference. Overall surrealism and Mario Brothers share certain similarities but due to them being from different time periods they are viewed as different art movements.
