Dominos and Cards
Dominos and Cards
The Chinese are known for their 4 great inventions of gunpowder, printing, paper, and compass, but they also invented cards. They first started out as dominos on thin pieces of paper with the 21 combinations one would get from rolling dice. Dominos then evolved to being made out of wood or ivory whereas cards stayed on paper. Both cards and dominos are referred to as a deck or a pack and can be used together for a game. Dominos have 28 in their deck and cards typically have 52 in their deck. Dominos maintained the plain dots to represent what number they stand for but on the other hand, cards changed to much more than that. Cards traveled and changed from culture to culture, from the Chinese to the Middle East, to the Italians, Germans, the French, and lastly America. Each adding its own variation and improvement. It is cool how different cultures can share an idea and then improve upon it to create it into what it is today. Both of these creations were there to help create some type of entertainment for the people of the time and they are still a crucial form of amusement for people of all cultures. Dominos and cards are something that can help bring all types of people together due to the games that can be played with them can break any type of boundaries that may exists.
