William Morris and Art Therapy
William Morris and Art Therapy
William Morris was a very important figure during the 19th century due to his artistic impact he left behind. Not only did he write poetry, but he started a furniture business to show off his artwork on fabrics, textiles, and wallpapers Both Morris’s poetry and furniture designs were his escape from the harsh industrial world. Morris created his furniture on that very concept and collaborated with others to make the Morris, Marshall, Faulkner firm that creates handcrafted artisan furniture. This is similar to art therapy which is designed to help one express themselves why also be a activity to relieve stress. His furniture was a way to help others get away from the industrial world by creating a comfortable space whereas his poetry is more comparable to art therapy. By creating and thinking, this helps one cope and destress which is why art therapy was made. The differences between the two is with the furniture it is more for the separation between the real world and the work world. While art therapy is more of an escape from it all not just one world or the other. Overall these two things have there own ways of helping people get away from their day to day grind of life.
